Wellington’s Annual University Fair: virtual event, real results
On Friday 11 March, our University Guidance team held our annual University Fair. Ongoing travel restrictions meant that, once again, the fair had to be virtual. And, once again, this actually proved to be quite advantageous to our Senior School pupils. By going entirely online, they had even more opportunities for direct, personalised engagement with admissions officers from some of the world's top-ranked schools.
Our University Guidance team organised the fair in cooperation with NOVVA, a company that specialises in online university fairs. They created an online platform of virtual 'booths' where admissions officers could share useful information, videos, links and digital pamphlets with our pupils. 104 universities from 15 different destinations participated, including world-leading institutions such as Cambridge, the University of Chicago and the University of Toronto.
The University Fair is the key event in Wellington’s university guidance programme. It is an annual milestone on our 'Higher Education Pathway’, which provides our Senior School pupils with a structured programme of university and career education, advice and guidance tailored to the needs of their age group.
This annual event was especially beneficial for our year 12 pupils. Having attended bi-weekly university research sessions throughout the year, they knew exactly what questions they needed to ask to get the most out of these online information sessions. As a result, the fair was crucial in helping them to determine the next steps they will take in forging their future.
While the fair has concluded, pupils should be able to review all the items they saved during the fair for up to one year via the platform's "virtual backpack" feature. We encourage all Senior School parents to talk with their children about the fair experience and the questions it has stirred in them about the future. For those parents who want to learn more about the event or have other questions about university and careers, please contact the University Guidance team anytime.
