Our founding school, Wellington College in Crowthorne, England, was inspired by the vision of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Granted its Royal Charter in December 1853, and with Queen Victoria laying the foundation stone in 1856, the school opened in 1859 as a national monument to Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington and one of the country's most renowned military figures and statesmen. Today, Wellington College is recognised globally as a leading British co-educational boarding and day school, offering a world-class holistic education within an inclusive community.

Wellington College Education (WCE) is the global educational network of Wellington College, united by a common purpose: pioneering education to serve and help shape a better world. WCE encompasses 12 co-educational schools, serving approximately 10,000 pupils across the UK, China, Thailand, India, the US and Indonesia, with new schools soon to open in Nigeria, Kenya, Qatar and Kazakhstan. Through this extensive network, WCE expands educational opportunities and fosters cultural connections through leadership, innovation and international collaboration, empowering young minds across the world. In addition, WCE organises Festivals of Education in the UK, China, Thailand, the US, Spain and the Netherlands.
Wellington College Education (China) opened its inaugural international school in China, Wellington College International Tianjin, in 2011. The group expanded further with the opening of Wellington College International Shanghai in 2014 and Hiba Academy Shanghai in 2018. That same year also saw the opening of Hiba Academy Hangzhou and Wellington College International Hangzhou. In 2022, the group launched its flagship bilingual boarding school, Hiba Academy Nantong. In autumn 2026, the group expanded globally with the opening of Hiba Academy Bay Area in San Francisco.
