Meet Wellington's new Master, Mr Brendon Fulton
We are pleased to introduce the newest member of the Wellington Community, our new Master, Mr Brendon Fulton. Born and raised on the east coast of South Africa, Mr Fulton studied and worked in IT before transitioning to education as a Computer Science teacher and staff development coordinator for IT integration. Having worked as a head of department and pastoral lead, Mr Fulton, his wife and two sons emigrated to the UK in 2008, where he took the position of advanced skills teacher at the Windsor Boys' School. While there, he undertook a degree in Psychology as he completed his PGCE. During this time, he and his wife, Kerri, also welcomed their daughter, Megan, to the family.
In 2011, Mr Fulton and his family moved once again to Qatar, where he worked as deputy head of a large 3–18 British international school. It was here that he also completed his Master's degree in Education. Then, in 2015, he accepted a position as head of secondary at the Dubai British School (DBS) in the UAE. Within the year, he was promoted to principal. Three years later, he became the executive principal, overseeing three schools within the DBS portfolio. During his tenure, the DBS group achieved 'outstanding' ratings. The schools are now oversubscribed, enjoying an excellent reputation in the region. Meanwhile, he also attended the Henley Business School, where he completed a course in Advanced Management Practice.
Mr Fulton's ideas about education make him an ideal fit as Wellington's Master. "Children do better academically when they are happy," he points out. "All pupils have the right to enjoy their time at school and to be challenged in a way that is appropriate to their current situation. Ultimately, they should experience success in a way that is meaningful to them." As such, he aims to uphold a strong pastoral ethos, ensuring that our staff proactively build our pupils' confidence and resilience. "Our believing that they can achieve is sometimes all the encouragement they need to take that next step," he adds.
Looking ahead, one of his key objectives is for Wellington to be recognised not only as one of the best private schools in China but as a global leader in international British education. "To accomplish this, I aim to ensure that all pupils have every opportunity to thrive in an environment characterized by enjoyment, curiosity and aspiration," he explains.
Parents will also play a key role as partners in education. "They must feel like they are a part of their child's learning journey and experience it with us," Mr Fulton says. This is important to him not only as an educator but as the parent of a pupil who will be joining us at Wellington this autumn.
Mr Fulton's final remarks express gratitude and optimism about his new posting. He says, "It is a privilege to be trusted with the leadership of Wellington College International Shanghai, a school that offers children the very best opportunities to find their talents and develop them into a passion, career and way of life."
