The university application season is now in full swing for our Year 13 pupils. Choosing where to study is often the first adult decision a young person makes. The right course at the right university can shape your child's life after Wellington, so we want you to go on this journey equipped with all the information you need.
During recent visits to Wellington Shanghai, we put four questions to admissions officers from leading universities:
Q
What is the best way to manage stress during this pivotal time?
Q
When should our younger pupils begin exploring their options?
Q
What role should parents play in the process?
Q
The IB is an ambitious programme—what makes it worth pursuing?
Since early September, we’ve hosted admissions officers from the University of Chicago, Rice, USC, and leading US liberal arts colleges including Amherst and Bowdoin. Meeting them face to face gives pupils and parents something rankings cannot: a clearer sense of each university’s character, expectations and fit. It also gives families the chance to ask the questions that matter most to them.

This is at the heart of our approach to university guidance. The IB Diploma Programme gives pupils a broad and rigorous academic foundation, while sport, the arts and leadership help them discover their strengths, interests and ambitions.

Through individual guidance we help each pupil bring these experiences together, set clear academic goals and present the best version of themselves on their applications.
Our 2027–28 Scholar and Scholarship programme is now open to external applicants worldwide, from Year 7 and above. Please contact our Admissions Team to learn more about the programme and our higher education counselling support.
