The start of a new academic year at Wellington Shanghai is always a special moment—one that brings together pupils, parents and staff in a renewed pursuit of learning, growth and shared achievement.

We are delighted to welcome our community with a special address from our Master, Julian Jeffrey. This year's message is set against the backdrop of exciting progress at our school and reflects our commitment to excellence and innovation.

In his address, Mr Jeffrey reflects on the remarkable achievements over the summer, which have set a new standard for academic and personal success in our community. 

Our Class of 2026 completed the IB programme with outstanding results, achieving a 100% pass rate and an average score of 38.2. These accomplishments place our school 4th in the Chinese mainland and 25th among the world's top 100 IB schools, all the result of our pupils' hard work and the strong support of our teachers and families.

The summer saw several improvements to our facilities as well. Our Year 2 Learning Space has been redesigned to offer more flexible, functional areas for different types of learning and activities. 

Enhancements to our sports facilities and running track invite all pupils to embrace new challenges and develop their skills. Our new school entrance stands as a symbol that links Wellington's proud heritage with its dynamic future.

More importantly, Mr Jeffrey shares his vision for the new academic year. We will continue to strengthen our Dual Language Pathway, mathematics, English, EAL and enrichment programmes, providing every pupil with the opportunity to explore new passions both within and beyond the classroom.

At the heart of the Master's message is a simple but firm belief: Wellington Shanghai is a community in which every individual is encouraged to realise their potential and where each achievement is both personal and shared.

As we embark on the 2026–27 academic year, we look forward to a joyful and rewarding journey—one marked by ambition, discovery and our collective determination to aim higher, together.
