Ringing in the Year of the Horse at Wellington

2026-02-13

Over two festive days, Wellington came alive with performances, crafts and cultural activities as our community gathered to welcome the Year of the Horse.

On 12 February, pupils from Years 1 to 3 took to the stage for singing, recitations and a spirited lion dance. Parents met each performance with enthusiastic applause and plenty of proud smiles.

The celebration continued the next day with bustling Temple Fairs. Parents, pupils and teachers in the Early Years came together for a variety of fun and interactive activities. They created Year of the Horse calendars, took fun photos, made prints, took Chinese garden tours and sampled New Year delicacies.

The main campus was just as festive. Lion dances and kung fu displays drew excited crowds, and pupils queued eagerly to make sugar art, face painting and stuff dumplings. These hands-on activities were fun avenues of exploration into Chinese traditions and customs.

Early Years and Primary pupils also created horse-themed artworks for an online charity auction to raise money for the charity Stepping Stones. At the Early Years Centre, a special charity sale showcased paintings and books donated by the pupils, with all proceeds used to purchase supplies for an underserved primary school in Guangxi.

Our pupil-led Wellbeing Committee also hosted activities that promoted physical and mental wellbeing.

At Wellington, Chinese learning is more than language—it's a full cultural experience. Events like these immerse our pupils in tradition, fostering joy, creativity and genuine connection. Over two days, we celebrated together and witnessed meaningful growth: learning with happiness, giving with heart and flourishing as a community.

Here's to a Year of the Horse full of learning, connection and growth.
