Catering

20 Dec 2024

We want Wellingtonians to leave the College understanding the importance of a healthy diet. We provide information to pupils frequently throughout all areas of the College about how to eat nutritiously, consciously and with balance.

School Lunches

At lunch time, pupils offered a balanced meal set from a range of options in our dining hall. We work closely with our caterers in order to provide nutritious, tasty options to our Wellingtonians.

At standard, all pupils will take up the offer of school lunches. Special exceptions, however, may be made. Any reason for not being able to eat school lunches will require an official communication and permission from the pupil’s head of school.  Food deliveries are never accepted and will be disposed of at the guard house on receipt.

  • Early Years pupils will have lunch in their own dining hall and lunch boxes are provided for pupils in Pre-Nursery to Reception. Healthy snacks are provided in addition to lunch.
  • Pupils in year 1 eat in our Lower Primary Dining Hall, with lunch being served to them at the tables.
  • Pupils in years 2 -11 dine in our main dining hall on a Rota system, Y11 and sixth form pupils dine in our Secondary Cafeteria.

Snack Policy For Parents

We are committed to promoting a balanced diet which suits the needs of growing, active children and supports concentration and learning. Morning snack is a perfect opportunity to boost energy levels and to add nutrients to their diets. For those who choose to bring in their own snacks, we expect it to be low-in-sugar and nourishing. Please be aware that, for health reasons, the College maintains a nut-free environment. Foods containing nuts are not permitted on campus. Pupils in years 3 and older may bring their own snacks to eat when permitted during the school day.  These snacks must be healthy. There should be no chocolate bars, big bags of crisps or biscuits. Healthy drinks such as milk or water should be encouraged.

Green Power Day

Once per month, we have a day dedicated to plant-based meals. We believe that reducing the quantity of meat in our diets reduces the strain the meat industry is placing on our planet. It also provides an opportunity for pupils to explore alternative vegetable dishes and cuisines they may not be inclined to try on a regular school day. This means we can reduce animal suffering, promote the benefits of vegetables and increase understanding of the environmental impact of the meat industry.
