U11 & U9 rugby round up
27 February 2017
Last weekend saw Wellington College International Shanghai host its first rugby tournament of the season. The U9s managed to field a strong squad of 10 boys from Years 3 and 4, while the U11s formed two competitive teams drawn from Years 5 and 6. The U9s enjoyed a string of three wins, maintaining their unbeaten track record this season. Equally importantly, it was fantastic to see how the boys have improved in recent weeks, as they demonstrated their ability to link multiple passes with smart support work. Mr Mason was also very impressed with the team’s improved defensive skills. Tackling has been an area of focus for the squad during their training sessions and this was evident throughout their matches last weekend. . Overall, the tournament was an all-round success for the U9s, with plenty of areas of play to consider in preparation for the next weekend of fixtures at Suzhou. The U11s had a mixed weekend, winning three of their six matches. Performances improved as the day went on and the boys’ team spirit remained strong as they battled through each physically taxing match. After an excellent weekend of competitive rugby, Mr Hambling and Mr Briggs were both very impressed with their respective teams’ conduct and performance on the field.
