BISP 7-A-Side Phuket football trip

26 Nov 2016
This was the first time a Wellington College International Shanghai team had competed in the BIS Phuket 7-a-side tournament, which has run for 16 years with over 30 international schools in Asia. The U11 and U13 boys were looking forward to playing against the best on the international schools’ circuit. The U13’s had competitive games and narrowly lost to Alice Smith School from Kuala Lumper, the hosts BIS Phuket and Harrow Bangkok. The U11’s narrowly lost their first game against Marlborough Malaysia, then achieved wins against Bangkok Patana School and Headstart International School, Phuket. The U13’s got to the bowl semifinal losing to the eventual winners St Andrew’s International School Bangkok. The U11’s won their next two matches in the knock-out stage of the plate against Harrow Bangkok and Stonewall International School, India but lost the final 1-0 to United World College Singapore. It was a terrific effort from all in the very hot conditions, but a special mention goes to Aaron Stephens, whose two crucial goals secured passage for the U11’s to the plate final, and Kai Webster, who produced a number of fantastic saves and was dominant in goal for the U13’s. A great weekend of team spirit and sport.
