Thanyapura Phuket 2016

25 Apr 2016

Thanyapura Phuket 2016

As most of the Wellington students were preparing for the half term break by getting ready for a holiday, the swim team were preparing to race with a return trip to beautiful Phuket and  to the outstanding facilities of the Thanyapura Sports Hotel.

Once again, Wellington College was to compete in the ‘Rocket Science Long Course Invitational Swim Meet’.

This annual event brings teams from all over China and South East Asia to compete in the 50 metre outdoor pool.

This year the competition was at an even higher standard as there were 7 athletes racing, who were using the event to hone their skills in the run up to the Olympic Games in Rio later this year.  As you can imaginel the standard was  extremely high.

Wellington swimmers, of course didn’t let us down.  After three days of fierce sunshine and even fiercer competition the 16 Wellingtonians came away with over 50 medals between them.

Age group trophies went to:

Zoe Stiller: 2nd
Agnes Yu: 2nd
Tommaso Colombo: 1st
Thierry Ngai: 3rd

This outstanding competition is fast becoming a favorite amongst the team and we look forward to returning next year with more swimmers and bringing home even more medals with personal best achievements.

Swimming Coach
