Nanjing International School Swim meet – 2016

19 Feb 2016
It was with much anticipation that the swim squad prepared its self for the Nanjing Swim Meet.  Not only were we taking one of the largest teams we have ever taken away from Shanghai but four new swimmers from the ‘Development Squad’ also joined us. The ‘Development Squad’ consists of swimmers whom the Aquatics team has identified as much improved swimmers in swimming lessons and who would benefit from extra training on their way to becoming full members of the team. Alex and Grace Lu along with Elise Willet and Charlotte Sedgwick joined the team for their first experience of competitive swimming. There was much checking of weather apps and long-range forecasts before departing for Nanjing as the temperature dropped the chance of snow was increasing.  The team took a last minute decision to go and jumped on the bus for the five and a half hour drive to Nanjing.  Although there was some snow on the road, our driver was very cautious and delivered us all to Nanjing safe and sound. The usual early start for the team, (6:00am for breakfast) and then on to the bus again to head over to Nanjing International School.  Another full day of competition, with nearly all of our swimmers hitting new personal bests during the day.  A worthy mention to Angela Lu, who, in her first swim meet came away with a heat winner’s ribbon. The Nanjing Swim Meet is a great opportunity for the team to experience competition away from Shanghai, the chance to be away from home, and meet other swimmers from all over China and South East Asia. Next up:  Thanyapura – Thailand. [wellington_wistia]nl413z4awu[/wellington_wistia]
