Wellington College International Shanghai Music Scholarship Auditions

28 Dec 2015
In order to foster and encourage music within the school, Wellington College International Shanghai offers scholarships to boys and girls who show considerable musical promise. Music Scholars will play a significant role in the musical life of the school. They must show a high degree of musical ability and should demonstrate the potential for leadership in the encouragement of non-award holding musicians. Music scholars are awarded at the discretion of the Master following an audition with the Director of Music. The value of the awards varies from between 5% to 10% fee remission and free instrumental tuition at Wellington College, Shanghai. For audition candidates will be required to play two pieces on their first study instrument. Alternatively, candidates may perform on two instruments if they desire. Singing may be offered as either a first or second study. Sight-reading and aural tests of an appropriate grade will also be given. The standard of the candidate’s main instrument should be approximately equivalent to ABRSM Grade 6, but at this stage potential is regarded as being equally as important.  Successful candidates will be those who show a genuine interest in their development as a young musician and those who are willing to make a significant contribution to the musical life of the school. The Director of Music, Mark Batten will be visiting Shanghai between 26th and 29th May and will be holding auditions for candidates who wish to apply for music scholarships.
