The number 10 takes centre stage for our annual Maths Week

The week commenced with hands-on activities in which pupils constructed intricate Sierpinski triangles and participated in probability-based games. They learned to analyse outcomes and strategise based on expected values. Pupils also played games that explored mathematical powers, providing a deeper understanding of exponential growth and its practical applications.

Wednesday’s highlight was the large-scale Tower of Hanoi House Competition. The activity emphasised teamwork and logical reasoning as houses worked together to solve the puzzle under timed conditions. Creativity met analytical thinking in the Maths Art sessions, which saw pupils creating curves from straight-line graphs, showcasing the visual beauty of mathematics.

In some Primary classes, pupils had the opportunity to apply scaling principles and geometric transformations in innovative ways as they learned how to make areas ten times larger, giving pupils the opportunity to practically apply scaling principles and geometric transformations in innovative ways. Pupils also put their data interpretations skills to work as they analysed data about our College’s growth over the past decade.

Activities culminated on Friday with our mathematics-themed dress-up day. Pupils put on a vibrant display of mathematical imagination with fractal patterns and equation-themed outfits. Treasure hunts and tactical challenges added to the fun and were an opportunity to reinforce real-world applications of maths.

All told, it was a tremendous success that inspired a lasting appreciation for maths and raised the bar next year!
