Pre-Nursery to Pre-Prep:Head start your child's learning journey

21 Oct 2022

Early Years schooling is an extremely important time in a child’s development. It is their introduction to formal education and often marks their first exposure to letters, shapes and numbers. A growing number of studies have shown that children enrolled in Early Years schooling reach higher levels of attainment across the board — richer vocabularies as well as stronger reading and quantitative skills.

But an Early Years education does so much more than build solid foundations for later learning. This is also a crucial time when children get acquainted with social dynamics outside of the home. They learn how to navigate interpersonal relationships with children their age. They absorb concepts like empathy, cooperation, fairness and kindness. They start learning to negotiate and take turns sharing. These are essential life skills that will serve children both in and outside the classroom well beyond their time as Early Years pupils.

Starting in the 2023-24 academic year, Wellington’s Early Years Centre will be offering young pupils the opportunity to headstart their lifelong learning journey with our new Pre-Nursery programme.

Available for eligible pupils aged two, this programme offers a play-based curriculum that supports all aspects of a child’s development as they live the Wellington Values of Courage, Respect, Integrity, Kindness and Responsibility. With this programme, they will have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of fun and enriching learn-through-play activities that will leave them better prepared as they transition through to Nursery and Pre-Prep (Year 1) further down the line on Wellington’s main campus.

“The earlier we instill the Wellington values and foundational constructs of formal schooling, the better equipped our children will be for success,” says Charlotte Knight-Benjafield, Executive Head of Early Years, “easing transition stress is always our top priority, as calm, happy pupils, make for learning outcomes.”
