Our message to the world: ‘We are 10 years strong!’
On a bright and early September morning, the Wellington Shanghai community gathered on the grass field to commemorate 10 years of building a global community.
Sporting our house colours, pupils from Reception to Sixth Form, roughly 1600 pupils and 400 teachers and staff stood proudly in formation to spell out "WELLINGTON 10 上海" for an awe-inspiring aerial photograph.
Our message to the world: We are 10 years strong!
The energy and excitement were palpable as everyone came together to capture this milestone moment. This unforgettable experience will remain etched in the memories of our pupils, reminding them that they are part of something truly remarkable as they continue their Wellington journey.
Although we celebrate ourselves as individuals, we are also part of a colourful, vibrant, thriving global community.
This powerful display of unity and school spirit sent a celebratory message to the world: We are 10 years strong!
Wellington College International Shanghai opened its doors on August 24, 2014, welcoming our first pupils, pioneering education to serve and help shape a better world. This month, we are excited to celebrate with a full calendar of festive activities.
Our upcoming annual United Nations Day and International Food Festival will show what it means to build a truly global community as our pupils don traditional dress from their home countries and we share in one another’s culinary heritage.
Since our founding, the College has grown into a thriving global community, and we are proud to be known as the leading international school in Shanghai as well as one of the top-ranked in the world.
Beyond academics, Wellington develops the whole child, nurturing their intellectual curiosity, creativity, character and wellbeing, all firmly rooted in our Wellington values of kindness, responsibility, respect, courage and integrity.

“Wellington has grown in so many profound ways these past 10 years, and I don’t just mean enrolment numbers,” said Brendon Fulton, Master of Wellington College. “With each successive year, our network has grown wider and stronger. We are increasingly better equipped to be a force for positive change in our community and the wider world, and that is the ultimate goal of a holistic education.”
This year, there will be several celebratory events taking place on campus and around the world. At the end of October, we will launch our inaugural Wellbeing Festival, the first of its kind in China, which will see our pupils and community members engage in workshops, talks and a host of other activities guided by themes, like Be Active, Be Learners, Be Connectors, Be Mindful and Be Changemakers. #Wellbeington
The festival will culminate in a 10th Anniversary Celebration Day on 1 November. Our valued community partners will join us on campus for a special commemorative event and a special 10th-anniversary outdoor concert.
Then, our parents and teachers will come together to celebrate this milestone year with an 10th-Anniversary themed annual ball. Moving forward in our 10th academic year, we reflect with gratitude on the incredible families, staff and partners who have joined us on this journey and made this journey possible.
