Meet this year’s IGCSE Excellence Award-winners
10 exceptional year 12 pupils were recently recognised for their outstanding performance in the IGCSE examinations. This year’s winners of our IGCSE Excellence Award achieved an impressive average score of 10 A*/As. This remarkable achievement highlights their academic prowess and is a significant milestone in their learning journey.
"A high IGCSE score speaks of a commitment to excellence," remarked Dr Charles Debieux, Head of Secondary School. "It reflects their resilience, self-discipline and a growth mindset. These qualities will undoubtedly serve them well in their IB studies, at university and whatever career they choose to pursue."
In addition to receiving a certificate of achievement, the honourees were treated to a unique Wellington tradition – they were gifted a bespoke, tailored suit or dress. This sartorial celebration not only symbolises their hard-won success and their transition into young adulthood as they advance from year 11 to the Sixth Form, where the Wellington uniform requirement is no longer in place.
"The tailored outfits represent a major step toward independence and self-driven learning," continued Dr Debieux. "As these pupils embark on two years of IB studies, they are poised to embrace their newfound autonomy and continue their path of excellence."
Our award-winners in their own words
Lena
Year 12
“I think I did well on this exam because I put in a lot of effort, and I planned out my studies. I owe a lot to Ms Coong, because she gave us a lot of advice on how we should be doing a timetable for every subject. So, my advice to anyone taking the IGCSE this year: Don’t cram!”
Alex
Year 12
“IGCSE success is a long process. You've got to be patient from the start and throughout the entire process. Trust your teachers. Trust yourself. Don’t be too stressed, but also don’t slack off. The biggest challenge is just managing your time properly. IB is pretty different from IGCSE, obviously, but my work ethic and the habits I developed during my IGCSE courses are definitely helping me this year.”

Year 12
“One of the biggest lessons I have learned with IGSCE is that you cannot just memorise things. You have to conceptualise everything and understand what you’re reading. Exam technique is also important because a lot of the questions are asked in the same way. So, getting a grip on the style of the mark scheme and the style of the questions can definitely help you achieve exam success.”

Year 12
“This whole experience is quite special because it's only 10 people each year. I owe a lot to my chemistry teacher, Ms Alderson, who is no longer here. She taught me how to answer questions and save a lot of time on the test. And then it was pretty easy. If you're taking the test this year, I would just recommend doing a lot of the past papers. That's what helped me the most.”
Congratulations to this year’s IGCSE Excellence Award winners. Looking sharp!
