Kindness through creativity: our annual CNY charity art auction

21 Jan 2022

Our Chinese New Year art auction begins today! Organised in cooperation with the Friends of Wellington, this annual charity event is a fantastic opportunity for Wellingtonians to harness their creativity while practicing an important Wellington Value: Kindness.

The theme, of course, is Chinese New Year, and each class from Nursery to year 5 is presenting one collaborated work of art for parents and other community members to bid on. Each piece is unique, meaningful and has been produced in a dazzling variety of media and styles — from folk art to pop art, and everything in between. Expect lots of beautiful tiger motifs and fun, festive splashes of red and gold! In addition to our collaborative works of art, we have several individual pieces on auction from Chinese style watercolour artist and year 5 pupil, Daniel, as well as artist, Shanghainese architect and Wellington parent, Mr Hua.

This year, all money received from the auction will be donated to Stepping Stones, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting English and digital literacy education to disadvantaged pupils in Shanghai and rural areas in China, a truly wonderful cause that aligns perfectly with what we do here at Wellington.

“We hope that every Wellington parent will participate in this annual tradition. It is a great opportunity for parents and children to reflect on and celebrate what really matters this time of year: family, community, education and generosity toward others,” says Friends of Wellington Core Committee member William Tan.
