This February, Wellington welcomed Barbara Amono-Oceng, the Deputy British Consul General for Shanghai. Members of our Pupil Leadership Team took Ms Amono-Oceng on a tour of the campus before sitting down for a thought-provoking Q&A session.  They covered a host of subjects, like diplomacy and international relations as well as how both might be affected by the rise of artificial intelligence. It was also a great opportunity for our pupils to learn how they might pursue a career in diplomacy.

Our Early Years Centre Pupils have been spending the final full week of February celebrating 100 Days of Friendship with their sister school Huili Nursery Shanghai. The highlight of the celebration was a ‘class swap’, in which half of an Early Years Centre class traded places with half of a Hiba Nursery class to join together for a lesson. It was a fun and enriching activity for all as they got better acquainted with fellow members of the Wellington Family.

Children in years 1, 2, 5 and 6 put their spelling skills to the test with our annual House Spellington Bee. Participants faced challenging words, showcasing their vocabulary skills and composure under pressure — all to earn points for their house. House Lynedoch led the pack in year 1. Hopetoun prevailed in year two. Hardinge and Stanley took the lead in our year 5 and 6 competitions. The House Cup remains up for grabs!

Secondary School pupils and parents joined us for our IB/IGCSE Options Evening. This annual event is an opportunity for pupils and parents to get all the information they need before deciding on their areas of focus in Secondary School. More than just an information session, this was a very interactive activity in which participants got to see where the learning happens and talk with pupils who are currently taking or have completed their IGCSE and IB courses. Invariably, their insights are invaluable, as they provide the most honest account of what incoming pupils can expect from the IGCSE and IB programmes.

The 14th International Schools Choral Music Society (ISCMS) Gala Concert was a stunning success! This event showcased the exceptional musical talents of students from international and bilingual schools across the region. This year’s theme was ‘Songs of Destiny’, and highlights included the China premiere of Constant Lambert's The Rio Grande and the world premiere of a piece by 16-year-old ISCMS Jenkins Award winner, Dylan Zheng. Renowned conductors led the ISCMS choir, orchestra, and big band in a program of classical masterpieces. Also, our very own Arts Scholar, year 10 pupil Melody guided the orchestra as Concertmaster for this inspiring show.

We welcomed young athletes from Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Dalian, Beijing, Xiamen and elsewhere around the region to the Wellington campus for the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools Gold Division Basketball Tournament.  Our very own Wellington Lions delivered some impressive performances on the court. After several hard-fought matches, our boys' team claimed a remarkable second-place finish, while the girls' team secured a respectable sixth-place position. More importantly, throughout the tournament, every pupil athlete on the court played in the spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie. The ACAMIS Spirit is about so much more than just winning, it is about fostering a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and cultural exchange. Our talented athletes demonstrated these values — along with our Wellington values of kindness, responsibility, respect, courage and integrity — throughout the tournament.
