Awarding IGCSE Excellence: Suiting up for success
"A high IGCSE score says so much more about a pupil than the knowledge they have acquired,” said Dr Charles Debieux, Head of Senior School. “It is a clear statement about their commitment to excellence. And this takes resilience, self-discipline and a growth mindset. These learning traits will continue to serve them in their IB studies, at university and in whatever careers they pursue in life."
Our IGCSE Excellence Award winners earned an average score of 10 A*/As. This was nothing short of impressive in a year when we saw outstanding scores across the board at Wellington.
The tailored outfits also dovetail with another unique Wellington tradition. When our pupils advance from year 11 to Sixth Form, they are no longer required to wear the Wellington uniform. Their new attire, therefore, not only signifies their hard-won achievement but also a major step toward young adulthood as they become independent and self-driven learners.
IGCSE Excellence Award-winners in their own words
Christina
Year 12
“I feel really honoured, and I feel that my hard work has paid off because I did do a lot of revision before the final exams. So getting a high score is a great sense of achievement.”
Alex
Year 12
“I think I just found that I like the subjects that I picked. So, I really enjoy studying them. I think that's the main reason why I did well on the test. But also, I think I found a revision method that suited me, which made it easier for me to retain all the materials.”
Beatrice
Year 12
“Getting a high score feels really good. I'm really proud of myself for all the effort I put in. We've only just started our IB classes, but I'm happy with the way the year has started so far.”
Lesean
Year 12
“My suggestion to anyone taking the IGCSE this year: Do like all the past papers. Those are going to be very helpful. This way, you’ll build knowledge while also learning what kinds of questions are on the test. The questions are all set. The topics are all set. All you have to do is memorize the key terms and you'll be completely fine. Also, don’t just read. Take lots of notes.”
Congratulations to our 2023 IGCSE Excellence Award winners on this remarkable achievement. Looking sharp!
