A stellar start to the term

Early Years fun at the Festival of Friendship
Despite the challenges we faced over the past several months, we are starting this new academic year strong. Our 2022 leavers raised the bar with our highest average IB scores to date. Likewise, our incoming year 12 pupils overcame their IGCSEs with great resilience. They are primed for success as our newest Sixth Formers. I am confident that the bar will be raised once again this year.
Our dual language pathway continues into its second year as well. This ambitious programme offers our youngest pupils the opportunity to not only learn two languages but learn how to learn in two languages across all subjects. Building on our successes from last year, we have fine-tuned our curriculum and expanded our offering to higher year groups.
Big changes are also in the works for our house system. This year, it will be even more inclusive and engaging, further elevating the Wellington spirit of competition. Everyone — from our Early Years pupils to even our non-academic staff — will be a member of a house. We have a full calendar of events and competitions that will allow every pupil and member of staff to shine. They will score points for their house. Then at the end of the year, the winning house across the College will be awarded the coveted House Cup.
You will also notice a few changes to the campus grounds. Our Pre-Prep dining hall has had a facelift, making the purpose-built space even more child friendly. A new College eco-garden will provide a place where pupils can get their hands dirty cultivating vegetables and herbs. We have refurbished our gym and added a new LED scoreboard and touchpads to our swimming pool as well. Our Wellington Lions sports teams also have a brand-new mascot, but more of the unveiling is to come!
As ever, we have a full calendar of community events planned for the year. Get ready first for our annual celebration of China’s Mid-Autumn Festival. Not long after, we will celebrate the diversity of our wonderful community with United Nations Day and our International Food Festival. We will be ringing in the winter holidays and Spring Festival with tree lightings, temple fairs and performances from pupils and parents. Come springtime, we will make up for lost time with our annual orchestral concerts, musical plays, Science Week and so much more.
We have an exciting year ahead, and I am so glad you are all here to share it with us!
