We welcomed well over two hundred new pupils to the school, and whilst the scale and layout of Wellington’s campus may be new to them, the early evidence suggests that they are already settling in and finding new friends.
Of course, for returning pupils, it is another story. The final week in August for them is a chance to reconnect with their friends and teachers after a long summer break.
For many, this will be a pivotal year, with IGCSE and IB examinations coming in a few short months. They need to start the year with a level of purpose and hard work they can sustain until their revision and examinations begin.
All pupils, though, will of course be supported and challenged to give their best in all that they do, from the classroom, to homework, CCAs, and other activities – we expect all Wellingtonians to live up to our collective ambition and high expectations.
The school, too, is ready to receive pupils. The summer holiday has allowed the facilities and operations teams to renovate and improve significant parts of the campus, with work done in the outdoor areas for years 1 and 2, internal redesign for many Secondary School classrooms and improvements to the catering service.
As a result, the estate looks fantastic, and colleagues have been hard at work during our induction and professional development weeks to ensure that high-quality learning and pastoral care are fully ready to launch.
Days such as these remind me why being in school is such a privilege and pleasure. With all our pupils and staff back and busy in classrooms, on the stage, on the sports pitches and in the pool, this looks set to be another great year for our community.
