Outstanding university offers

13 May 2019
As our year 13 pupils are busy preparing for and sitting their IB exams, it seems an appropriate time to celebrate their success in gaining offers from some of the world’s best universities. This year’s cohort of 22 pupils are a committed and dedicated group who, under the close supervision of the university guidance team, have thoroughly researched their higher education options and crafted excellent applications. Pupils from the school have received a range of offers from outstanding universities from around the globe. These include five offers from institutions currently ranked within the world’s top 10 universities and 31 offers from those ranked within the world’s top 50*. With some potential offers still to come - this is proving to be an incredibly successful year! Reflecting on these offers, Steve Tippen, Director of Higher Education and Careers, commented: “The fact that our pupils are being recognised by top universities, such as Imperial College, UCL, St Andrews and LSE in the UK or the likes of UC Berkeley, NYU and UCLA in the United States, is a real testament to the hard work and ambition of our pupils as well as the dedication of all those people involved in supporting their applications.” As the school continues to grow and expand its sixth form provision, these offers provide an important message to those younger pupils coming through the school. Ewan McCallum, Head of Sixth Form, said:Over the next few years, the sixth form is due to more than double in size and we have some ambitious plans in place to ensure the further development of our university guidance provision. It is important that pupils throughout the school are provided with a clear pathway of advice, support and guidance to ensure that they are able to effectively plan and prepare for their future beyond Wellington. This means that, whether they are interested in pursuing a career in medicine, engineering, or wish to perform on stage, they feel well-supported in taking their next steps towards this exciting period in their lives.” We are incredibly proud of all our year 13 pupils and we wish them the best of luck as they sit their IB exams. * According to the QS Global University Rankings.
