2019 Summer Festival logo winner announced

02 Apr 2019
Summer Festival tickets are now available!

Emma Philo

Head of Art and Design Technology

During the Lent term, pupils in years 6-9 developed their design ideas for our annual Summer Festival logo competition. With the chosen theme for this year’s festival being ‘African Safari’, the art and design technology department quickly exploded into bursts of colourful African tribal art, nature scenes and, of course, majestic animals indigenous to Africa.

Pupils worked tremendously hard to produce their logos using penwork, paints, pencils, collage, paper, water colour, pastels and more. This quickly led to over 300 submissions for the first round of judging. All the teachers and technicians from the art and design technology department were involved in selecting 50 logos to go on to the next round. These 50 were then judged and narrowed down to five finalists by a Summer Festival panel made-up of graphic designers, the Friends of Wellington and Principal, Eleanor Prescott. Finally, the five finalist entries were reviewed by Head of Prep School, Andrew Willis, and the Upper Prep prefects.

After much deliberation, our 2019 Summer Festival logo has been selected. Congratulations to the logo designer Kayla Peterson, year 9 Lynedoch!

Similar congratulations also go to our logo runners up, whose logos were also truly excellent making the final selection very challenging:

Doreen Kuek

Year 9 Hopetoun

Konstanze Forst

Year 7 Stanley

Sara Al Suwaidi

Year 8 Hopetoun

Sophie Hugo

Year 9 Stanley

Thank you to all Wellington pupils who submitted their logo designs for consideration. The quality of submissions has been simply outstanding this year, which meant that the judges from all three rounds had a really tough time making their decisions. We have very much enjoyed the privilege of reviewing some of the best designs we’ve ever received, especially from many of our younger pupils, who have been boldly experimenting with various creative mediums, leading to some remarkable outcomes.

Thank you to everyone who chose to get involved in the competition and I hope that you are as excited as we are for the 2019 Summer Festival!
