The start of a new academic year always brings a collection of new faces to Wellington and this year is no different. Among our latest additions is Steve Tippen, Wellington’s new Director of Higher Education and Careers. Steve joins us from one of the most successful sixth-form colleges in the UK whose students regularly gained places at the top universities worldwide. Steve brings with him fresh perspectives about the rigours of the modern college application process:
“In recent times, gaining access to the top universities around the world has become an increasingly competitive, almost ferocious process. In this environment, it is necessary for our pupils to do their research and prepare themselves thoroughly, but it is equally important that they have access to the most relevant guidance and up-to-date advice and information, to ensure that they have everything they need to make the right decisions about their higher education future.”
Inspired by the challenge of meeting and exceeding the achievements that Wellington has enjoyed with its past two years of sixth-form leavers, Steve is looking forward to working with our pupils and their parents. By channelling their hopes and ambitions into early preparation focused on accessing the most appropriate universities and colleges, Steve aims to give Wellington pupils the best possible chance of fulfilling their higher education aspirations.
“What I think really sets Wellington apart from other schools is that it is constantly striving to improve upon its already impressive record of achievement. We have similarly high aspirations for the University and Careers Service. We aim to be ambitious in its development, so that pupils are sufficiently prepared for their lives beyond school at an earlier stage. It’s amazing to see how much the previous leavers have achieved, attaining offers from the most prestigious and competitive universities from around the world. I am genuinely excited about what we can achieve next, and I look forward to helping pupils reach their exceptional potential over the coming years.”
