U11 Boys A team win plate and B team wins Cup in Rugby Finals

11 May 2018
The end of the U9 and U11 rugby season saw both teams take a trip to Dulwich College Shanghai for an end of season tournament. This was the culmination of an intense 6-week season which has seen Wellington's teams improve significantly.   The U9s started the day against a strong Dulwich team and their first game resulted in a loss at seven tries to four, with Ezekiel scoring the majority of tries. The next game was a convincing win against a Barbarians team which was made up of players from different schools, with Darragh making some crucial tackles. The final match was against Dulwich and it turned out to be a much closer affair, with the boys only losing by two tries and again Ezekiel and Conor making some excellent passes.   The U11 A team started against a strong LFS team and finished 1-1 in a very close match. Wellington found their groove in the next game against Nord Anglia and won by eight tries, where Alex, James and Dylan scored the majority of the tries. However, they lost by six tries to Dulwich Blue in the final group match. In the semi-finals of the plate, the boys were comfortable winners against the LFS team and got into the plate final against Dulwich Red. The boys went ahead early on and managed to win the plate final 3-0.   The U11 B team got off to a great start, beating Dulwich Red with Gabriel and Toby playing particularly well. Their next match resulted in a comfortable win against The Barbarians, which put them into the final against LFS and our B team were just too strong and ran out the clock to become comfortable cup winners.   It has been a great season for our players, many of whom had never played rugby before this year and should certainly improve further next season, given the enthusiasm and love for rugby that they've shown this year!   Nick Starbrook Director of Sport Wellington College international Shanghai
