U18 Girls 3rd Place in SSSA Tournament

05 Dec 2017
During the final weekend of November, the Senior School girls football team took their first outing as a squad, heading to the U18 Girls SSSA tournament. Given that a number of key players graduated last year and several new members have joined the team, this was an important opportunity for the girls to play together before the start of the SISAC football season next term. The tournament's first two matches represented a slow start for the girls, with a 0-0 draw against FDIS and a 0-2 defeat to LFS. It wasn’t until the third match that the girls began to find their rhythm, ending in a hard-fought draw with Qibao 0-0, but this was followed by a comfortable 3-0 win against SUIS WY with Anya scoring all three goals. The final match against SHSID ended in another victory at 2-0, with two goals from Anya again. Unfortunately, due to the slow start at the beginning of the tournament, the girls ended up contesting for the 3rd/4th pace and were pitted against FDIS once more. This time they achieved a much more favourable outcome: winning 2-0 with two goals from Anya yet again to secure third place in the tournament overall. This was a great result from the girls' first tournament together as a team and clearly they are all eagerly awaiting the start of the SISAC season next term!   Nick Starbrook Director of Sport Wellington College International Shanghai
