Pupils celebrate success at Chinese Writing Competition 2017
25 May 2017
More than a hundred of our pupils recently took part in a Chinese writing competition organised by the Educational Bureau of Pudong. We have competed every year since the opening of our school. We came fourth overall in terms of number of winners and ranked number one among the international schools.
The competition was based on the topic of: ‘Chinese culture in my view’. Our pupils touched on a variety of elements, from the tasty food we have during traditional festivals, such as rice dumplings, to the things that have a fundamental influence on the Chinese culture, such as Dongba characters. Everyone who participated in the competition had to creatively combine independent thinking with a deep knowledge of the Chinese culture.
We are both pleased and excited to announce the following winners:
Third Prize: Tiffany (Y4), Seiwa (Y7), Cheryl (Y7), Devlin (Y7), Annie (Y7), Aaron (Y8), Matthew (Y9), Ekaterina (Y10) and Joey (Y11)
Second Prize: Samson (Y3), Melody (Y4), Perry (Y7), Sophia (Y7) and Annie (Y7), Chloe (Y10) and Daniel (Y10)
First Prize: Leopold (Y7), Sabrina (Y7), Britney (Y7), and Kiana (Y9)
The standard of writing was extremely high as our pupils were required to use wide range of vocabulary, idioms and structures. The number of prizes we won is a testament to our children’s hard work and dedication. Our pupils’ excellent performance is a gratifying reflection on the Mandarin department’s commitment and professional guidance.
I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. 端午节快乐!
