U11/U9 rugby round up: U9s continue their impressive run of form

02 Mar 2017
Last weekend saw both the U9 and U11 rugby teams in action in Suzhou. All four teams were mixed up once again, giving the players a chance to work with different team mates and starting positions. The U11 teams faced stiff opposition and although Wellington 2 didn’t record any wins on the day, plenty of tries were scored and the boys all improved as the games went on. A first try for Gabriel and a player of the tournament accolade for Luke were just two of the highlights from Wellington 2’s tournament. The U11 Wellington 1 team secured a great victory in their final game, thanks to some strong defensive work and quick hands at the breakdown which gave them the advantage they needed to run in some excellent tries. The U9s continued their impressive run of form with Jeffery becoming the most improved tackler during the day, ably assisted by some fantastic support play from Andrew, Joshua and Taylor. Team 1 recorded one win and a draw in their three matches; the win was against Dulwich College Shanghai Red and the draw against Dulwich College Shanghai Blue. Team 2 won two of their three matches against Dulwich College Suzhou and Seahorses. This was a great achievement for a team who have only been playing together for a few weeks and we look forward to seeing what they can produce next, now that they have been tested with some competitive experience.
