Hopetoun wins upper Prep cross-country
17 Feb 2017
This week, our Upper Prep pupils were given the chance to represent their respective houses in the annual Inter-House Cross-Country competition.
Running five kilometers might not sound like a great distance but, for some, it can bring on a genuine sense of dread. This made the event a test of character and resolve for our pupils, since they were being asked to run, not for themselves, but to support their houses and one another. By finishing the race, each participant would contribute at least one point towards their house’s total, with faster finishers and those in the top six positions being awarded additional points.
Admirably, each and every one of the participating pupils ran the race to the best of their ability and they should all be proud of themselves. Regardless of individual finishing positions, there was a genuine sense of each runner giving their all as part of a greater team effort.
A further highlight was seeing so many members of staff out running alongside the pupils, encouraging them along the way. Together, the seasoned runners, novices and enthusiastic beginners all joined in to create what turned out to be an extremely enjoyable afternoon of competitive running.
While Hopetoun had the honour of winning the overall inter-house competition, congratulations must go to the following individual medal winners:
Boys:
• Bronze – Stefano
• Silver – Tommaso
• Gold – Felix
Girls:
• Bronze – Annabelle
• Silver – Jade
• Gold – Agnes
