U11 netball wining strike

17 Feb 2017
On Saturday 11th February the U11s Netball squad travelled to Dulwich College Suzhou for their second fixture of the season and I am very proud to say the girls have been performing extremely well so far! The girls won all three of their games this week; an excellent start to the season which has helped build their confidence and motivated them to maintain this initial momentum in the games to come. The first game was against Dulwich Shanghai 4, a younger and less experienced group. The girls started off with a truly emphatic victory with a final score of 12 – 0! Our shooting team of Seren (GA) and Dior (GS) kept up a steady stream of goals with fantastic support on the circle from (WA) Konstanze and (C) Grace. By the end of the game the girls were in high spirits and looking forward to their game against NAIS. Victory came our way in the second game as well but only after the girls managed to overcome some stiff competition from NAIS, whose team had noticeably improved since their first fixture. Our shooting team remained the same with a switch around in mid-court and defence. Kayleigh stayed firm in (GK) with help from both Tiggy and Cheryl as (GD), whereas our (WA/WD) combination was bolstered by two new players, Dorothy and Connie. It turned out to be a very tense game, with both teams matching each other goal for goal until our girls clinched it in the second half with a crucial goal which won the game 4 – 3. The girls managed to maintain both their form and their winning streak for the final game of the day. Dulwich Shanghai 3 fielded a more experienced team but we streamed ahead in the first half of the match with Seren (GA) scoring 4 goals in quick succession! Kayleigh (GS) and Dior (WA) had a change of position which provided strength in the circle area and Grace (C) continued to make some wonderful interceptions, winning the ball before quickly passing it further down the court to set up more goal-scoring opportunities. Dulwich Shanghai fought determinedly but the girls attacked with precision and defended solidly, intercepting more passes than in any of their previous matches, which resulted in a 7-0 victory for Wellington College. Every member of the squad should be rightly proud of their excellent performance and I look forward to seeing if they can keep up their hot streak! Mrs Hugo (Head of Netball)
