Wellington hosted Shanghai Soccer Development League
09 Nov 2016
On 29th October Wellington College International Shanghai played host to the Shanghai Soccer Development League Cup competition in dry but slightly chilly conditions. The cup involves over 500 girls and boys playing football in U9 and U11 age groups divided into 46 teams from Dulwich College Pudong, Dulwich College Suzhou, Nord Anglia International School, Yew Chung International School and Dulwich College Minhang.
On Wellington's expansive grounds, each of the 7 pitches was filled between 8am and 2pm and the competition and spirit in which the football was played was a credit to the schools involved. Our own indomitable U11 boys team were again victorious in the U11 A division and the B team lost narrowly to Dulwich College Pudong in the U11 B division final. Dulwich College Suzhou made a clean sweep of the rest of the competitions and would have enjoyed every minute of the long journey home.
The competition was well attended by players and parents alike and was an enjoyable experience for the international school sporting community.
