Courageous Wellingtonians on the ski slopes of northern Italy
On Saturday 30th January, thirty year 7 to 12 pupils and eager staff departed Shanghai for Wellington’s Annual Ski Trip. A change of destination from last year’s trip to Hakuba in Japan, meant the group travelled this year to Pila in the Aosta Valley in northern Italy.
Upon arrival in Italy, the air of anticipation for their first day on the slopes was palpable. Under blue skies and the panoramic view of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, the Beginners group started on piste at a low altitude while the more advanced climbed higher to hit some more challenging slopes. The group made so much progress that by the last day the Intermediate group skied “The Wall”, a testing black run. The group also enjoyed exploring the beautiful Italian architecture of the Piazza at Grom in the old town.
On the last evening, the ski instructors presented the pupils with their certificates and badges, celebrating the level of ski ability they had achieved throughout the week. Each pupil’s behaviour was exemplary during the whole trip. Integrity and respect were clear values upheld by all.
