Wonderful Performance at Heyday Jazz Night
On Saturday the Wellington Senior School Jazz ensemble, directed by Nick Muzyczka, performed at the popular Heyday Vintage Jazz Lounge. Their performance included a variety of popular and lesser known Jazz standards, such as “Sweat Georgia Brown” and “A Foggy Day”. The ensemble were also joined by some Wellingtonian singers for a number of pieces, including “One Note Samba" and the popular “Summertime”.
The Jazz ensemble is intended to offer advanced performing opportunities for pupils in the Senior School and to introduce our pupils to this important style of music. Wellington music teacher Nick Muzyczka commented, “Playing improvised music is a real challenge and requires a lot of courage to go on the stage with no plan. This form of music helps to prepare pupils with essential life skills as they build their confidence and stand up and improvise in front of an audience.”
Music is a very important part of the Wellington curriculum, and this kind of performance provides pupils with a platform where they can showcase, practice and strengthen their skills.
Following the impressive performance, two enthusiastic Wellington parents told ICS: “Such events give the children a chance to showcase the extra talents that they have. Wellington is about balance in education – balance between sports and the arts, as well as academics.”
Congratulations to all the pupils involved and our thanks to Heyday for hosting the event!
