Announcement of the appointment of Mr Gerard MacMahon as Master of Wellington College International Shanghai
Dear Parents,
As the Chairman of the Board of Governors, I am delighted to announce that Mr Gerard MacMahon has been appointed to the position of Master at Wellington College International Shanghai.
The appointment of Mr MacMahon represents an exciting era for the college under his long term leadership. Gerard will be fully supported by an established and talented senior leadership team and staff. Together they will lead the College and its pupils forward towards sustained excellence and further growth as we strive for excellence and provide pupils with a cutting edge global, educational experience.
Mr MacMahon offers commitment over the next 5-10 years and brings a wealth of leadership experience to Wellington College International Shanghai. He takes up the position having been Headmaster of a very large international school in Qatar. During his tenure, he led strategically and operationally resulting in significantly raised standards. Previously, Mr MacMahon was Headmaster for 8 years at Sheldon School in Wiltshire, which was judged as being ‘outstanding’ in all 38 categories by Ofsted and was one of the first nationally to be awarded training school status. During this period, Gerard was awarded the accolade of UK National Leader of Education in 2010 on the basis of outstanding school leadership.
Mr MacMahon will begin in the position by undertaking a period of induction at Wellington College UK during the month of January 2016. He will then transition into the role in Shanghai during February 2016. In the interim, the Board of Governors fully supports Ms Eleanor Prescott in her current capacity as Master in continuing to effectively lead the College.
The whole College community will benefit from Mr MacMahon’s leadership as he engages with parents and the community, leads our excellent staff and ensures the pupils receive the highest quality holistic education that is part of Wellington’s DNA. The college will maintain a commitment to offering an education underpinned by the Eight Aptitudes with the five core values running through all aspects of school life, so that pupils leave Wellington College International Shanghai fully prepared for access to a top University place and a successful career beyond.
Yours sincerely,
Joy Qiao
Chair of the Board of Governors
