Wellington hosted the British Chamber Centenary Football Tournament
29 Dec 2015
The Saturday that fell on October 17th was a superb day to be in Shanghai; the sun beamed and there was not a cloud in the sky. It was a perfect day for the largest Corporate Football Tournament to take place at Wellington College, hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce. A total of 500 people, comprising 24 teams, streamed through Wellington’s gates for a day of sports and socialising.
Four of the College’s many football pitches were in use for this family event that has been on Shanghai’s annual events calendar for some time now. The pool stages of the tournament consisted of four separate groups of six teams who battled it out for a win, lose or draw from 9:00 to 17:00, until only the more successful were left standing. It was a closely contested affair, with no initial indication of a prime candidate for the triumphant spot. However, as the sun began to set and draw the tournament to a close, BP team came out victorious, having competed in the tournament on three previous occasions.
The day was a resounding success for Wellington College and demonstrated how the school is continuing to get involved in the wider community of Shanghai. The College recognizes and embraces the importance of sport, as a compliment to the academic sphere in the Eight Aptitude model of education. Wellington College looks forward to welcoming back the British Chamber of Commerce next year for an equally enjoyable day of football.
Wellington College cannot wait to host the upcoming Urban Family Halloween party on Saturday 31st October!
