Year 7 History Field Trip - Visit to the Xiaotaoyuan Mosque
As part of the Year 7’s History curriculum studying the Islamic Empire, they were fortunate enough to secure an invitation for a day trip to the Xiaotaoyuan Mosque. The Mosque has a long history, spanning nearly 1000 years and has a cavernous space to hold 800 people for prayer. The Xiaotaoyuan Mosque is both the largest and the most beautiful in Shanghai, so the pupils had been anticipating their visit for some weeks. Upon arrival to the sacred space the pupils were given a tour by the Imams of the Mosque. All the visitors were equally inquisitive, posing many questions; the Imams explained how they pray as well as the significant history of the building. The visit finished with a special view of the Mosque’s roof garden where the people gather during Ramadan to break fast and watch the moon and stars.
