As part of the trade delegation visit of key Ministers from the UK to Shanghai, on Wednesday Wellington College had the pleasure of welcoming The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, as well as the President of the Board of Trade, for his inaugural visit to the College. Wellington was selected as a destination for their visit as a result of the strong connection between the UK Trade and Investment, UK Embassy and Wellington College China.
Javid arrived and was received by Joy Qiao, the Chair of Governors, and David Cook, the Founding Master of Wellington College International Shanghai. During a campus-wide, Javid met with representatives of the senior school, visited various bustling classrooms around the school and met wonderful Year 3 pupils. Afterwards, the tour group ascended to the fifth floor to view the Library; Javid was notably impressed by the breadth of resources available to the Wellington pupils in this outstanding facility, as well as the technological surroundings.
The MP’s visit culminated with a photograph at the College’s entrance with the pupils as well as a commemorative tree planting ceremony.
The MP noted the apparent strong affiliation between the various Wellington establishments. This momentous occasion at Wellington College signifies the increasing importance and strength of not only Wellington’s Sino-British partnership, but that of China as a whole.
