Queen Elizabeth II's Birthday Party in Shanghai
On Friday 5th June the Senior School Choir were invited by the British Consulate General to perform at event to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday held at the historic Ruijin Hotel. The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Justin Welby attended the event as part of his official visit to China and unveiled a commemorative photo of Queen Elizabeth II taken by the British photographer David Bailey. The choir started the ceremony by singing the British and Chinese National Anthems and also performed the Medieval English song “Sumer is Icumen in” and “Non nobis Domine” by the Renaissance composer William Byrd, a musician who was closely associated with Queen Elizabeth I. Before the ceremony music scholars Paul Garofalo and Eliza Ruffle and performed a selection of piano pieces.
