A tribute to our teachers

As today is the day to celebrate teachers here in China, we thought we would share a little insight into just how special our teachers really are. Although all of our teachers are specialists in their subjects, can you guess what they do in their spare time? Or what they might have done before they joined Wellington? Our teachers have been involved with producing at BBC Radio, banking in London, casting Hollywood films, directing and acting plays, even cryptography. They have spent years in Florence perfecting their arts, pouring over their PHDs in Molecular Biology, and exploring the world perfecting their culinary skills. Some have performed solo concerts in front of 8000 people in London, while others have perused excellence in yoga instructing quietly on tropical islands. We have teachers who’ve played football for England and those who have played cricket for Scotland. We have two national Rugby players, an ex-tennis pro, and even a boxer. From two time Olympic Swimmers to qualified ski coaches even a trampoline coach! Pop Artists who’ve invented their own instruments, BBC scriptwriters, linguists, mechanical engineers who sung with the London Symphony Chorus, computer programmers, photojournalists, ballerinas, and animal behaviour specialists. They’ve published various historical works, analysed forgotten scripts and languages, they’ve even gotten chased by the odd hippo. From kayaking over 300 km through the heart of Sayan Mountains in Siberia to travelling the globe teaching, learning and exploring, our teachers have achieved unbelievable things, and we haven’t even mentioned what they do in the classroom! Happy Teacher’s Day!
