Santa splash swim meet - Singapore International School
10 Dec 2015
For the first time, the Wellington College Swim Squad was in action in the beautiful city-state of Singapore. Joining schools from all over South East Asia and China at the Singapore American School for their annual ‘Santa Splash Swim Meet’.
This was a great opportunity for our team to compete outdoors in the warm air of Singapore. The swimmers all relished the chance to race with the sun on their backs after spending the last few weeks shivering in mid-winter Shanghai.
All of our swimmers, once again demonstrated how much their hard work and dedication to swimming, and the team has paid off. All of our athletes managed to post new personal bests in at least one event, with some of the team competing in events for the first time.
The team took away a huge haul of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as well as individual age group trophies:
Ettore Colombo – 8 and Under Winner.
Anna Qi – 8 and Under 2nd Place.
Tammaso Colombo – 10 and Under - Winner
Agnes Yu - 10 and Under – Winner
Jade Franetzki – 10 and Under - 2nd Place.
As we move forward through the team’s second year, we can really see how well the team is developing. The swimmers are now far more confident when swimming in new events, some trying out the longer 200M Individual Medley and the Medley Relays for the first time. With the revised swimming practice program in full effect from January we hope to see the team improve even more over the coming six months.
It is also fantastic to see the students growing as a team. The bond between the swimmers is very strong one, working so hard together each week they have forged very strong friendships across different age groups and this was very evident in Singapore as they cheered for each other and worked closely together in warm ups.
Upcoming events:
Nanjing International Swim Meet – January
FOBISIA – February
Thanyapura (Phuket) – March
