SSSA League cross country

01 Dec 2015
Wellington College was privileged to host the inaugural ‘Shanghai School Sports Association’ cross-country event on the 25th of November. Wellington was joined by many schools from Shanghai and further afield in this tough individual sport. Teams representing WISS, SUIS, YK Pao, LFS and Hangzhou CIS came together to race in four different age groups over either 3 Kilometres or 5 Kilometres (depending on age). The course for the race wound its way around Wellington’s sports facilities taking in the athletics track, the river walk and the sports fields before finishing in front of the grandstand. It was a perfect day for distance running, a bright blue sky but with a cool and crisp wind to keep the competitors from getting too hot. With the largest team competing, it came as little surprise to the PE team that Wellington not only took the ‘Team Points’ trophy but 21 of the 24 medals on offer that day. That said, there were some amazing performances from the other schools that attended the event, but with home and numerical advantage Wellington runners certainly had the edge on this occasion.
