Wellington goes scuba
14 Sep 2015
Following on from last year’s very successful trip, Wellington College is again sending a troupe of adventurous students to the Philippines to take part in a diving trip.
The students who are new to the sport started last week with their ‘closed water’ training. Taught by Tom from Big Blue Diving, the trainee divers are learning how to assemble their Scuba kit, safety procedures and how to move effectively underwater. Once these sessions are complete, the students will take their ‘Open Water’ dives in the Philippines and will qualify as ‘Open Water Divers’.
We also have a returning group of divers from last year. They will be putting themselves up to the test by attempting to qualify as ‘Advanced Open Water Divers’. To qualify for this, the students will have a choice of ‘specialty’ dives, which they must complete. They can choose from: deep dive, wreck dive, drift dive, navigation dive and many more.
The students will have the opportunity to take many dives in the beautifully clear water in the Philippines and will get to see a vast array of marine life on their trip.
