Mike Gatting's cricket course
10 Jun 2015
On Monday 11th May 2015 we were lucky enough to be joined, for a second time, by a cricketing legend, ex-England captain and chairman of the MCC, Mr Mike Gatting. A fleeting visit for the afternoon made possible by Kingdom Education.
Mike was able to spend an hour with our sports scholars, talking to them about what it takes to perform at the highest levels of sport and gave them some really interesting ideas about being part of a team.He also explained to them about how to deal with the pressures of leading and captaincy. All the pupils were then given the chance for a short Q and A session with Mike. For our scholars, this was a unique opportunity to get a real insight in to the world of elite sport and delve into the experiences of a man who led an Ashes-winning test side.
He then gave a coaching clinic to our year 4,5 and 6’s and later to years 7 to 11 about the real fundamentals of the game of cricket, introducing some to the game for the first time.
Mike is going to return to Shanghai and to Wellington in September, when we are looking to host a Lord’s Taverners game, some school competitions and more coaching. This is the second time Mike has visited the College, having first come here last October with the MCC Ladies team to play China in the inaugural games on the College’s pitch.
We are very excited to have Mike Gatting as a regular visitor to Wellington, as we look to raise the profile of cricket in this part of Asia, in conjunction with Kingdom Education. This is a very exciting time for cricket at Wellington as the College begins to become a hub for the sport, not just in the city, but in China as a whole.
