Gavin Jack

Year 4 Teacher & Head of Humanities

Gavin is an experienced international educator with a background in primary education and a strong interest in inquiry-led, student-centred teaching. With extensive experience in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), he is skilled in designing and delivering meaningful, concept-driven learning experiences. His teaching is grounded in constructivist principles, with a focus on fostering student agency, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Gavin values collaborative practice, reflective teaching, and consistent, practical approaches to supporting both students and colleagues.

Gavin holds a Master’s degree in Comparative and International Education, a PGCE in Primary Education, and an undergraduate degree in ICT. He is certified in multiple IB Category 2 workshops, including those focused on effective collaboration, planning, and assessment. He has also completed professional development in inquiry-based, concept-driven learning and is currently undertaking the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) to further deepen his leadership capacity and strategic thinking within school settings.

Outside of the classroom, Gavin leads a balanced lifestyle and finds inspiration in endurance sports such as running, cycling, and swimming. He regularly participates in local events and uses training to maintain focus and wellbeing. Family life is especially important to him, and he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and children. Long walks through Shanghai’s parks and city streets are a weekend highlight, providing time to recharge, connect, and reflect. Gavin values wellbeing as a core part of sustaining a healthy professional life.
