Maddy Mitchell

Head of Year 6

Maddy is originally from Auckland, New Zealand and graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Primary Teaching) from the Auckland University of Technology (AUT). She studied a range of papers in science, mathematics, English, social sciences, educational philosophies, culturally responsive pedagogies, performing arts, children’s literature, inclusive education and diversity.

Maddy has experience teaching in various settings, including both Lower Prep and Upper Prep. Her most recent years were spent in an Innovate Learning Environment (ILE) at an intermediate school in Central Auckland. Maddy has a strong understanding of the IB curriculum and has experience teaching the PYP framework. She has undergone further professional development in areas such as agentic learning spaces, mathematics education, and inquiry-based approaches. As a teacher, Maddy strives to create a dynamic and inclusive environment that fosters growth and excellence.

Outside of the classroom, Maddy has a passion for the Performing Arts and social sports, such as Netball and Football. She grew up in the dance studio and danced both ballet and contemporary styles for 15 years. In her spare time, Maddy also loves to bake sweet treats, write poetry and learn more about the world (geography and languages).
