Emma-Jayne was born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand and graduated with a BA in Japanese from Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology. She then taught English in four primary schools in Japan for five years as part of the JET Programme, where she discovered her passion for teaching. Upon returning to New Zealand, she attended Massey University and obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary School Teaching. Emma-Jayne taught in New Zealand for four years before embarking on an adventure to Brunei Darussalam, where she taught ESOL in two primary schools. Recently, she achieved her Masters in TESOL from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, and she is deeply interested in language acquisition and learning.
In 2023, Emma-Jayne relocated to Shanghai with her husband and children, who also joined Wellington. As a mother of two, she enjoys exploring new places with her family and trying local cuisines. She has a genuine enthusiasm for learning about different languages and cultures. She is proficient in Japanese and has a strong desire to acquire the foundations of Mandarin while in China.
