Melody Huang

University Guidance Counsellor

Melody joins Wellington as a university guidance counsellor after six years of experience in international education. Before transitioning to her current role, she taught IB-MYP English Language Acquisition at a bilingual school in Shanghai for three years. It is during that time she discovered the joy of working with young people and being around a cohort that shares the same passion.

What she finds different about teaching language arts and university counselling is that the latter allows her to holistically see a pupil’s personality and potential beyond classroom. She is keen to help her pupils discover their personal strengths and encourage them to see the value in embracing their artistic and humanistic side.

Melody earned her Bachelor's degree in English and Education from East China Normal University. Currently, she is pursuing her Master’s degree in Advanced Educational Practice from the Institute of Education UCL. She feels the pain her pupils are feeling when it comes to meeting multiple deadlines.

Melody’s favourite things to do include eavesdropping/people sketching at cafés, memorising hiragana and katakana (although never succeeded) and biking (very nervously) on bustling Shanghai streets.
