Director of Houses | Head of Academic Drama
For 20 years, Samuel has worked in a variety of educational settings and held leadership roles that encompass both academic and pastoral responsibilities. As the Head of Drama at John Lyon, Harrow, he successfully revitalised the drama and theatre department, achieving exceptional exam results while establishing connections with other schools, arts organisations and the wider community. Before this, he held the position of Deputy Head of College at Fortismere School, where he played a key role in implementing a school-wide house system that empowered students and transformed the school community. He also served as an examiner for Edexcel Pearson, visiting prominent schools across the UK.
At Wellington, he served as the Senior Housemaster for Combermere before assuming the position of Director of Houses. In this capacity, he creates a comprehensive programme throughout the school that is funcompetitive, fostering mutual support among pupils across various disciplines. He has combined this role with his responsibilities as the Academic Head of Drama, overseeing all aspects of the curriculum's performance work and directing two large-scale productions annually. Additionally, he oversees Wellington’s Drama Fellowship programme, which involves collaboration with theatre professionals from around the world.
Before teaching, Samuel achieved success as an award-winning actor and writer. He received training at Birmingham University, the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. His interests beyond teaching encompass football and travel.
