Amy Hodgins
Head of Art
Originally from Ireland but raised in the UK, Amy always knew she wanted to pursue a career in the arts. From a young age, she felt an affinity with drawing and creating. Being a teacher has provided an opportunity for her to share this passion with her pupils.
Following her graduation from Kingston University in London, Amy began working in gallery education and museum learning. This experience confirmed her desire to pursue a career in teaching and led her to Cardiff to study for a PGCE in secondary education (art and design). After some years teaching in London she took up her first international teaching post in Caracas, Venezuela before arriving in Shanghai in 2019.
Amy sees the study of art as a holistic practice with many personal and learning benefits. It provides a vital means for young people to express themselves and respond to the world around them in creative ways. She feels students develop problem-solving skills and the ability to develop and refine ideas in greater depth. She encourages every pupil to see value in their artistic endeavours, and never say the words "but I cannot draw".
Outside of school, Amy loves to travel and explore different countries. She also enjoys visiting exhibitions, yoga and soccer.
