Kalev Kurg
Director of Science and Technology
Kalev joins us from the Royal Guard of Oman, where he taught Chemistry and Physics for four years at an elite boys military boarding school. He was previously Deputy Director of Science at a successful secondary school in Wiltshire. He has been teaching since 2012 when he attained a PGCE from Christ Church Canterbury. Kalev studied Chemistry at the University of Bath. He graduated in 2005 and began working as an analytical chemist for an international engineering firm. He soon realized that his true passion lay in teaching and sparking scientific curiosity in young people. He believes that education is holistic and multifaceted, nurturing within students a flair for innovation, the courage to persevere, and the competence to excel for themselves. His educational philosophy is centred around the needs of the students, always giving them opportunities to grow regardless of their starting point, and the belief that everyone can be coached to success. Beyond the classroom, he is a keen outdoorsman who enjoys hiking and rock climbing. He has led several Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions and is a qualified trainer and assessor. He is an occasional sailor, though he was frequently outclassed by the Omani boys sailing team. He also likes to travel and explore the roads less travelled and once kayaked from Dubrovnik to Split with his wife.
